Adam Lallana is set to become the second Southampton departure in 24 hours as he closes on a £25million move to Liverpool.
Negotiations between the two clubs are at an advanced stage and Liverpool could even complete their protracted pursuit later on Friday.
Lallana has been one of Brendan Rodgers’s top transfer targets this summer but Southampton have already rejected two bids, including one shortly before the start of the World Cup.
But Liverpool’s latest offer has been reconstructed and is believed to have been accepted by Southampton, who have also sold Rickie Lambert to the Merseysiders this summer.
Southampton were determined to hold out for £30million but Liverpool appear to have finally succeeded in their battle to sign the Saints captain.
Lallana is travelling up to Melwood for a medical later today before joining Luke Shaw as the latest exit from St. Mary’s.
He will end a 14-year association with Southampton when he completes his move, after joining from Bournemouth’s centre of excellence in 2000.
Last season Lallana was named in the Professional Footballers Association Premier League team of the year after nine goals in 38 league appearances
