The Ashanti Regional Branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will embark on a demonstration to protest the worsening energy situation in the country.
The demonstration has been dubbed “ya y3 mo d3n demo” which literally means, “What have we done?”
Ghanaians have been experiencing erratic power supply due to the failure of power generation companies to meet the nation’s growing energy demand.
Ghana’s current electricity demand stands at over 2000 megawatts (MW) while its Electricity demand is presumed to be growing at a rate of 10%.
This situation is however expected to worsen in coming weeks after authorities at the Bui Dam announced plans to reduce production capacity due to the low level of the Bui reservoir.
This mechanism according to the Bui power authority is to protect the turbines at the Bui Dam from any potential damage.
Speaking to Citi FM, the Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NPP, Samuel Payne disclosed that “the Ashanti region has been singled out as the worst affected place where the load shedding is taking place”
He further added that “Business are collapsing, private properties are been destroyed, there is absolute hardship in the region.
The group also intends to use the demonstration to draw the president’s attention to the unbearable hardship in the region.
