The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has set December 6, 2014 for its National Delegate’s Congress to elect a Flagbearer for the 2016 election.
The party has therefore opened nomination for all aspirants who seek to lead the party in 2016.
Speaking to Citi News, General Secretary of the party, Kwabena Agyepong said “aspirants who are picking a nomination form have to pay GHC 10,000 with a banker’s draft and the forms are available at the secretariat of the General Secretary in the party headquarters in Asylum Down in Accra.’’
The National Executive Committee and the National Executive Council of the party on Friday endorsed the proposal of the steering committee to pave way for the NPP’s primaries.
Nominations will however be closed on July 7th 2014.
According to the NPP’s constitution when the party is in opposition the latest day to hold a presidential primary to elect a candidate for the national presidential elections is 24 months from the time.
The National Council of the party will convene again on the 19th of June to sort out the issue of the formation of the Standing Committee and other matters.
The two time presidential hopeful for the party ,Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has officially declared his intentions to lead the NPP for the third time i.
But he will face stiffer opposition from other party members like; Dr Kofi Konadu Apraku, a former Health Minister, former Trade Minister, Alan Kwadjo Kyeremanten, Mr Joe Ghartey, etc
