Outspoken member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Kwame Amoako-Tuffuor has maintained his membership on the party’s National Council.
However, NPP stalwart and former Chief of Staff under the Kufuor administration, Kwadwo Mpiani has lost his position on the Council due to his failure to contest his position.
Dr. Amoako-Tuffuor was maintained after he was re-elected in an acclamation by members of the party in the Ashanti Region.
He had earlier alleged that some persons in the party wanted him out of the party’s council due to his open support for Nana Akufo-Addo; one of the aspirants contesting the party’s flagbearership slot.
The elected members include five regional executives including the Ashanti Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, Samuel Payne, Dr. Alhaji Raul Abdul, Beatrice Serwaa Daakyi, Zenab Saliu.
The non-executive members who were also elected include Dr. Kwame Amoako-Tuffuor, Kwame Osei Prempeh, Mrs Janet Anane, and Robert Yaw Amakwah.
In an interview with Citi News, the Ashanti regional NPP secretary, Samuel Payne described the exercise as peaceful.
The national executives of the NPP directed the party’s leadership in all 10 regions to organize regional elections for members who wish to represent their respective regions on the party’s National Council.
The elections were necessitated after a party member challenged the current constitution of the Council.
The NPP constitution requires the National Council which is the second highest decision making body of the party to be re-constituted every four years.
