Following continuous day-time armed robbery attacks on the Akwatia-Asamankese highway in the Eastern Region, drivers and other commuters who ply the route are threatening to abandon it.
Speaking to Citi News, some drivers said they made the decision after experiencing several attacks from armed robbers.
The attacks have also ground business activities in the district to a halt, as vendors who travel the route from neighbouring towns either close their shops early or desisit from using the highway.
Citi News’ checks has also revealed that the Akwatia Police have made two arrests in connection with these developments
Residents, who blame the bad state of the roads and the absence of police in the area for the recent state of affairs, have appealed to their Members of Parliament, Hon. Baba Jamal and Hon. Gifty Klenam, to increase the number of police patrols on the highway in order to curb this growing menace.
