The 2014 edition of Citi FM’s Write Away Contest will be launched on Thursday, June 19, at the Alsyd Academy at Dzorwulu in Accra.
The competition is held annually to hone the writing skills of participants.
The topic for this year’s essay will be unveiled at the launch after which contestants will be allowed to send in their handwritten entries.
The closing date for submission of entries is August 1, 2014.
Citi FM’s Programmes Manager, Jessica Opare Saforo in an interview explained that the launch is taking place at Alsyd Academy because the 2013 winner of the contest, Isabella Quaye emerged from the school.
“We just thought it will be a great way and serve as an encouragement to the rest of the children in the school that if they participate in a contest of this nature; a nationwide contest, they will stand a good chance of winning something and acquiring something for themselves,” she said.
The contest is for pupils between the ages of 10 and 14 and this year’s topic,.
According to Ms Opare-Saforo it is to encourage creative writing.
She said she is convinced that at the end of the contest, the station will achieve the set goals and objectives regarding the promotion of literacy in Ghana.
