The Branch Manager of Volta River Authority(VRA) / Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCO) is under fire from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Nkoransa Municipality of the Brong Ahafo Region, as they threaten to chase him out of the area if he is not immediately transferred.
He is being accused of taking unilateral decisions and using forceful tactics in his administration.
The constituency secretary Dapaah Gordfred lamented that the branch manager, Mr. Alfred Sackey is running the business of VRA/NEDCO like his personal property and does not respect anybody in the municipality.
He alleged that the manager has been using the military from the Sunyani Barracks to terrorize the people in the area.
He does this under the pretense of disconnection of power in households. He also said that on Tuesday, the manager mobilized the military to go to Broahohoo to disconnect the entire township without consulting the MCE and the elders of the area for protesting against his order to have the transformer taken.
The NDC scribe noted that such operations bordering on the security of the people must be done with greater consultation thus it is unacceptable for the VRA Boss in the area to be going about disconnecting power without cause.
He said what is more worrying is the manager’s attitude towards reports of faults and electricity problems in the area, saying anytime a problem is reported to him, he claim it is as a result of the NDC’s bad governance.
Mr Dapaah opined that Mr. Sackey is not an administrator but a politician who should not be allowed to remain at Nkoransa. “He will frustrate and disturb the people.” He said. He went on to say that Mr. Sackey must be transferred or fired.
He however threatened that they will make sure the manager is transferred from the area or he will be chased out of the municipality.
But listening to some officials of VRA, they expressed surprise over the outburst from the people and especially from the members of the NDC, saying all this is being done to prevent the VRA to refrain from disconnecting defaulters of non-payment of bills.
Meanwhile, when the branch manager was contacted he said his outfit is in touch with the authorities in Nkoransa to iron out all outstanding issues.
