Unlike most female celebrities who make a big deal about taking time off to make babies, popular TV presenter, Kokui Selormey, does not allow pregnancy to hinder her daily routine and keeps going till the day she goes into labour.
The co-host of Viasat 1’s This Morning show was on air in the morning on the day she had her second son who is now one year old. And she was back on air just a month after giving birth. She also has a son who is three-years-old
Kokui is currently pregnant with her third child and there has been no sign of slowing down. She told Showbiz last Tuesday that she had been blessed to breeze through her nine months of pregnancy with no qualms.
“I have never used pregnancy as an excuse not to perform my duties as a career woman unless I have a doctor’s appointment. I am really lucky because most women do not get it like this.
“Even though I am pregnant now, I am motivated to wake-up every morning because I love what I do. Sometimes, I get so tired but I have to come to host the show. There are few times that I do not feel too well but I still do my show and go to see the doctor afterwards. I love what I do very much”, she said.
She however admitted that, it has not been easy combining work and motherhood since she is the type who wants to do everything herself.
“I do all the house work myself because I am not comfortable employing a nanny. I go to the market, take the kids to school if my husband is not able to do so as well as do the house chores. I am thankful to my mum who comes in to help sometimes”, she said.
Since it is obvious she enjoys what she does as a career woman, would she be a stay-home mum if her husband asked her to do so?. Kokui said there was no way she could do that.
“ I cannot be a stay-home mum. I am not the type who would want to ask my husband for little things I can take care of myself. Although I love to spend much time with my husband and kids, my work always remains within my priorities” she said.
Describing her husband as the best thing that ever happened to her, Kokui told Showbiz.
“Michael is my best friend, my brother. He advises me when I go wrong. He takes care of the kids and he is also a good cook. I think the only thing my husband cannot do is to breastfeed the kids. I love him dearly”, she said.
Kokui began co-hosting the Viasat 1 morning show, This Morning, in August, 2012. She also hosts Classic Citi, a weekly classical music show on Citi FM 97.3.
Aside TV presenting, Kokui is into music and her vocal talent has taken her to concert venues across the United States and Ghana with repertoire ranging from Western classical music to traditional Ghanaian melodies.
Kokui’s musical projects include Nubian Noel, an album of popular Christmas songs with legendary South African musician, Hugh Masekela.
A product of The Ridge Church School and Holy Child Secondary School, Kokui received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music and Theatre from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia and a Masters degree in Music from the New England Conservatory in Boston, Massachusetts.
Kokui currently splits her time among television and radio presenting, performing, event hosting and building her brand as a multitalented African artist.
In her spare time, she enjoys reading and spending time with her husband.
