A group calling itself Youth for Nzema-MANLE and Western Development have thanked President John Dramani Mahama for appointing Dr. Toni Aubynn as the new Chief Executive Officer of the Minerals Commission.
According to the group the appointment of Mr. Aubynn has demonstrated the President’s commitment to harness the country’s best human capital to efficiently manage the resources of this country.
Speaking to Citi News, spokesperson for the group, Adu Baffour said the entire youth of the Western Region both within and outside the country are grateful for the confidence the President has in Dr. Toni Aubynn who is well known to have made enormous contributions towards national development in both the energy and mining sectors.
“We are very grateful to President John Mahama for appointing Tony Aubyn as Chief Executive of the Mineral commission. Dr. Aubynn has proven in all the sectors he has worked in, he is competent to lead any sector to succeed.”
President Mahama appointed Dr. Toni Aubynn as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Minerals Commission last month to replace Benjamin Aryee, who after 30 years of service at the Commission — 13 of which were in the capacity of its Chief Executive moves to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.
Mr. Baffour further cautioned Dr. Aubynn to be mindful of commitment to the development of mining communities and remain neutral in the performance of his duties to the interest of state at large.
They urged Dr. Aubynn to dispassionately continue his “advocacy for national vision and policy on mining, increase in the portion of royalties to communities affected by mining, improvement in infrastructure of mining communities, local content and strong support for small scale mining by indigenes in the catchment areas.”
According to them, he should “champion this course without fear of intimidation from some powerful forces who due to their parochial interest would want to oppose such agenda and therefore urge him to be firm, diligent, focus and above remain neutral in the performance of his duties to the interest of state at large.”
