Government, in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) have presented relief items to affected victims of the recent rainstorm that hit the Tamale Metropolis and the Sagnarigu district of the Northern region.
The items include, 180 mini bags of rice, 180 bags of maize, 120 pieces of blankets, 15 cartons of mosquito coils, 250 pieces of plastic plates and 340 plastic cups as well as 10 plastic basins, 6 cartons of matches ,6 bales of already used clothes, 90 packets of roofing sheets and 180 bags of cement.
Presenting the items to the victims, the Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Mohammed-Muniru Limuna said as a social democratic party, there was no way the government could sit unconcern for residents to suffer.
He pledged to collaborate with traditional authorities to promote sustainable and efficient development of districts.
He sympathized with the victims and urged the officials to do due diligence and be fair in the distribution of the items.
Alhaji Limuna emphasized that the items should serve the poor and vulnerable who cannot afford what they lost during the rainstorm.
The chief of Sagnarigu, Abdulai Yakubu Andani who received the items on behalf of the people and the assembly thanked government for coming to their aid.
He called on donors and other developmental partners for more assistance and appealed to NADMO to liaise with chiefs and opinion leaders during natural disaster to help identify victims.
It will be recalled a heavy rainstorm sweep across 16 districts of the Northern Region.
The rainstorms also caused significant damages to portions of the official residences of the Northern Regional Minister and his Deputy.
