Former Minister in the erstwhile Kufuor Adminstration, Gladys Asmah is dead.
Gladys Asmah has been ill for a while and was on admission at the intensive care unit of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.
The late Glady Asmah was the Member of Parliament of Takoradi from Jan 1997 to Jan 2007 and also served as the Minister of Women and Children Affairs from 2001 to 2005 as well as the Minister of Fisheries from 2005 to 2009.
She was 74.
The 2012 New Patriotic Party(NPP) Presidential Candidate, Nana Akufo Addo confirmed her death on twitter saying “I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Mrs. Gladys Asmah, which occurred at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on Tuesday.”
He further noted that “Gladys Asmah as a founding member & a stalwart in the NPP served as a role model & a source of inspiration to many & will be sorely missed.
According to him, “the achievements she chalked as a Minister were remarkable. She was an excellent and trustworthy colleague.”
Nana Addo also extended his condolences to “her family, the NPP family and the entire nation of Ghana.”
