The Osu Traditional Council has issued a strong warning to the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) and the promoters of the Bukom Banku – Ayitey Powers bout to reschedule the contest from the set date or face their wrath.
According to the council, failure to adhere to their directive will amount to disrespect to the gods and the people of Osu which may require some violent measures to disrupt the fight.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Thursday, Chief Priest of the Osu area, Nuumo Gbelenfo said the May 16 date for the fight falls within the period of the ban on drumming and noise making for the Ga area therefore, “the fight cannot take place because we will be observing a solemn period, where all forms of noise making is prohibited.”
He added that starting from May 9th, no activity would be allowed in the stadium and its environs in the pursuit of upholding Ga customs and traditions.
“The two boxers are both from the Ga state and should know better. The right thing should be done during this period. We urge them to follow advice or face the consequences,’’ he warned.
The bout, scheduled for the Accra Sports Stadium, had already been rescheduled after Ayittey Powers pulled out –– initially on the advice of his spiritual mentor, T.B Josuah, and later claimed he was unfit to fight.
