The District Chief Executive[DCE] for Gushegu, Alhassan Fuseini has confirmed that there were violent clashes in the Gushegu township but insisted the situation was under control.
Three[3] people on Tuesday were reportedly killed while several houses got burnt due to clashes between the Yiyamba and Berimba communities in the Gushegu district of the Northern Region.region.
Two other persons who were injured are also responding to treatment at the Gushegu Government Hospital.
The Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) ASP Ebenezer Tetteh has also confirmed the incident and revealed that it was a result of long standing chieftaincy disputes in the area.
Speaking on the Wednesday edition of the Eyewitness News the DCE of the Gushegu area, Hon Fuseini revealed that “Gushegu has had its problems since 2008 since the last administration we came and then made it normal. This has erupted mainly as a parcel of land, and this happens in every district in this part of the country”
He also added that, this development was nothing to worry about since the area had held several elections without any hindrance.
