Black Satellites forward Samuel Afful has asked for fans to be behind the team as they face Sierra Leone this weekend in Freetown in the opening round of the 2015 African Youth Championship qualifiers.
Ghana drew a bye in the first round and therefore are in the second round of the competition. Coach Sellas Tetteh has picked an 18-man team for the match in Freetown and Afful, who is a member, told Citi Sports in an interview just before leaving Accra on Wednesday that the backing of fans in Ghana would be essential for a good result.
” I would like Ghanaians to pray for us as we face our opponents. Without their support, it will be tough so we urge to support us so that we can get the best outcome against Sierra Leone.”
Afful has had a good season with Hasaacas scoring eight goals and helping the team move up into the top four. The player is happy with his inclusion into the U-20 team but he stressed on the importance of preparing well for Sierra Leone.
” I am very pleased that I was selected but as a team we must work hard. We are very ready for the match and we have worked hard in training. We want to go there to win on Sunday.”
Ghana will be hoping to go one better in the main tournament after losing to Egypt in the 2013 African Youth Championship final.
The 2015 competition will be played in Senegal from the 8th the 22nd of March, 2015.
