The Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) ASP Ebenezer Tetteh has confirmed to Citi News, three persons have been killed and several houses burnt following renewed clashes between Yiyamba and Berimba communities in the Gushegu district of the Northern Region.

The two injured persons who sustained gunshot wounds are currently responding to treatment at the Gushegu Government Hospital while the third person who is in critical condition is being transferred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

He explained that clashes on Tuesday dawn is related to chieftaincy and land disputes which has always been a source of conflict between the two farming communities.

ASP Tetteh confirmed that Police reinforcement has arrived at Gushegu from Yendi enroute to the communities which are 34 kilometers from the district capital to maintain law and order.

Residents have fled the communities for fear of their lives and a possible escalation of the situation.

The latest violence comes barely a fortnight after a similar one resulted in the death of 34-year-old farmer, Mohammed Biwuirim.
