The Director, Research and Investment Development Division of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC), Kofi Sakyiama Antiri says blanket proclamations of investment prospects alone would hardly excite anyone.
He said if those wares were in tourism for example, they should be segmented, bringing out the business prospects clearly, to attract attention.
Mr Antiri was speaking at a GIPC sensitization workshop in Ho, attended by representatives from the Municipal and District Assemblies in the Volta Region and staff of business promotion agencies of the state and private business associations.
“This is not the time for the often touted Ghana has this much and that many potentials, those must be packaged into business plans for marketing” he stated.
Mr Antiri took the participants through provisions of the mandate of the GIPC under the new law, Act 865 2013, which now extends the confines of the Centre to cover all sectors of the economy.
He noted that there were incentives of tax rebates and duty waivers to be enjoyed under the new law which stipulated that all limited liability companies registered with the GIPC.
Helen Adjoa Ntoso, Volta Regional Minister in a speech read on her behalf observed that the “level of industrial activity in the various Municipal and District Assemblies is not very encouraging”.
She said that situation was “reflected in the productivity of the assemblies and in especially, the Internally Generated Funds that our Assemblies generate”.
Christopher Afenyo, Volta Regional Planning Officer urged the district to build and keep updating business profiles of their areas.
Bless B. D. Neriah, Chairperson, Association of Ghana Industries (AGI), Eastern and Volta Regions respectively, said it was important business people allotted time for trainings, as provided by this workshop.
