The acting Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) , Mr. Perry Okudzeto, has described as scandalous and frivolous, the decision by an aspiring National Youth Organiser, Richard Nyamah to seek a court injunction on the party’s upcoming delegates’ conference.
Mr. Nyamah threatened to seek the injunction on the party’s upcoming delegates’ conference slated for Tamale on April 12, 2014 due to what he describes as “a decision by the elections committee not to allow aspiring candidates contestants to address the delegates in Tamale”
Speaking on Eyewitness News, Mr. Okudzeto however described Mr. Nyamah’s assertions as untrue saying “I am scandalized because first of all I do not see the head and I do not see the tail of the issues that Richard has sought to raise.”
According to Mr. Okudzeto the party only suggested that it will not be prudent for aspiring candidates to campaign since the curtain had already been drawn on campaigns.
“ Looking for instance at the numbers that we have regarding aspirants, if we are going to give each aspirant two or five minutes, it would take a chunk of the time meant for the actual congress away,” he further explained.
In his opinion, Mr. Nyamah had no basis for his accusations that he levelled against the party since the issue had already been raised and settled within the party.
“The issue came up as to whether they would be allowed to address the delegates or not. The election committee said it will take the matter up, discuss it, and take a decision. We took this discussion as far as the national executive committee level and they took into consideration a lot of issues before taking this decision”
In that regard, Mr. Okudzeto called on Richard Nyamah to abort his intended decision to seek a court injunction since his actions could attract a disciplinary action against him.
But in a rebuttal, Mr. Nyamah stated that he would advise himself based on the decision of the election committee.
“I have put a petition before the committee and I am sure they will consider it. Based on the outcome of the issue, I will advise myself, “he insisted.
