King Faisal have reached the semi-final of the MTN FA Cup by beating Aduana 5-3 on penalties on Sunday in the Brong Ahafo Region.
After finishing 1-1 in regulation time with goals from Aduana’s Godfred Saka and Faisal’s Alhassan Mohammed, the two sides settled for the shootout.
Faisal scored all five, while the usually reliable Saka missed to hand the Kumasi side the initiative.
After the game, interim Faisal boss Prince ‘Sabuto’ Acheampong lauded his side for their tactical discipline.
“I realized that the Aduana players were floating the balls and that made it very difficult for my team. So I had to bring in tall players who could compete with them for the air balls and that really helped us after they had taken the lead.
“I was very happy to see the game go on penalties, because ever since I took over the team from the head coach, we have been practicing penalties after every training session,” he told reporters.
King Faisal’s penalties: Tetteh Nortey, Suraj Ibrahim, Franklin Osei, Fatawu Mohammed and Joshua Akoto.
Aduana penalties: Emmanuel Akuoko, Seth Opare, Kofi Owusu, Godfred Saka (missed)
