Today, Friday April 4 is the 22nd day after Francis Agyare, the man who was jailed 14 years without trial, was awarded compensation by the state for wrongful imprisonment.
And in accordance with the state proceedings Act, Act 555, a certificate of judgement will be presented to him following the 21 days mandate which he will serve on the Attorney General and the Accountant General for his claims.
Francis Agyare was arrested with 57 other suspected criminals at James town beach in 1994.
A Human Right Court in Accra awarded a GHC 240,000 judgment against the state for keeping him in jail for that period without trial.
The human right Lawyer for Francis Adjare, Francis Xavier Sosu speaking to Citi News said the certificate of judgement will enable the “final payment to be made after a judgement has been made against the state.”
He maintained that a certificate of judgement can only be obtained after 21 days of judgement.
