Assembly members in the Bawku municipal assembly in the Upper East Region want the ban on the riding of motorbikes completely lifted.
The ban which came into effect during the 2009 Bawku conflict was to curb criminal activities perpetrated by mostly people on motor bikes.
The use of motorbikes has since been permissible for only women. The men in the municipality however, also want the ban on them to be completely lifted.
Speaking to Citi News, the presiding member, David Adoliba stated that the problem should be addressed immediately so everyone can be permitted to ride motorbikes.
“As much as [motors were] used to commit crimes, today there are no crimes in Bawku and nobody is fighting in Bawku and so we cannot use the motor as a point of keeping or punishing the people,” he explained.
