The Greater Accra Police command has arrested a suspected arsonist who attempted to burn down some shops at the Makola market in Accra.
The arrest took place at about 2am on Monday when the woman was spotted allegedly pouring kerosene at the marketplace.
The Public Relations Officer of the Greater Accra Police Command, DSP Freeman Tettey in an interview with Citi News confirmed that the woman is in police custody.
“She was brought in by some security men at the market. They are alleging that she was sprinkling kerosene in the market, with the intention of burning it down,” he said.
He also stated that she exhibited signs of mental instability.
“We have started investigations but she was not cooperating, she appears to be mentally challenged. The investigator would be sending her to the psychiatrist hospital for thorough analysis.”
Investigations are currently underway.
