Workers of the Ghana Railway Company Limited (GRCL) have expressed fears about government’s plans to transform the ailing company.
According to them, there is a likelihood for them to become redundant after the numerous rehabilitation works ongoing in the sector.
They are therefore concerned about their fate as government rolls out its plans for the project
The workers say assurance from management of the company that they will not be redundant after the numerous rehabilitation works ongoing in the sector will allay their fears.
Citi FM’s Western regional correspondent, Obrempong Yaw, said although the company is supposed to see a massive transformation, a development which according to government will restore rail transport to its former glory ,the project has rather led to the workers having fears about their fate.”
This, he said, is evident in the occasional rumours of retrenchment.
He stated that during a recent visit by the Transport Minister, Dzifa Attivor, to inspect work on the project, the Managing Director of the company, Ato Botway called for information flow to assuage the fears of the workers.
He also revealed that procurement for the commencement of work for the 500 million dollar Western Railway project is currently in the final stages.
