Ghanaian defender Jonathan Mensah has praised his compatriot Abdul Majeed Warris for his goal-scoring feats in the French Ligue 1.
The Black Stars forward scored his sixth goal of the season with the winner against Evian on Saturday at the Stade du Hainaut and according to Mensah, Warris deserves recognition for his hard work since joining Valenciennes on loan in January.
” I wish Majeed all the best for his club and for Ghana at the World Cup.
I am happy for him because he has been very important for Valenciennes since his arrival. May he score more goals for the club”, Mensah said in an interview with Valenciennes official website.
Warris’ six goals in the 2014 calendar year in the French League is only bettered by PSG captain Zlatan Ibrahimovich who has eight.
Mensah, who played only three minutes of the encounter between the two teams, also expressed his wish to be at the World Cup with Warris whom he call a close friend.
” We are very close to each other and every time on national team duty, we are never far from each other and we do have a good understanding.
We speak very often about the World Cup and we hope it will go well in Brazil but for us, club football is the most important thing at the moment. We need to help our respective clubs first and then we switch attention to the World Cup.”
