Presiding Judge handling the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA) case, Mrs. Justice Afia S. Asare Botwe on Wednesday March 5 temporarily discharged the first prosecution witness, Nuru Hamidan, a former deputy national coordinator of GYEEDA in charge of operations and later administration.
This became necessary when lead counsel for the first accused, Lawyer Raymond Bagnabu concluded his cross examination.
Throughout the cross examination, Lawyer Bagnabu sought to discredit the witness’ standpoint that his client, Philip Akpeena Assibit, Chief Executive Officer of Goodwill International Consultancy Firm did not render consultancy services to GYEEDA.
In his concluding remarks, Lawyer Bagnabu insisted that Nuru Hamidan who is the current Municipal Chief Executive for Asokore Mampong Municipality palpably peddled falsehood throughout the cross examination to discredit Philip Akpeena Assibit.
Unperturbed Nuru Hamidan replied in opposition to Lawyer Bagnabu’s assertion and concluded that all his responses during cross examination were nothing but the truth.
He said, “I wouldn’t swear the Holy Qur’an and lie in court.”
A member of the second accused, Hon. Abuga Pele’s legal team, Lawyer Karl Adongo took over from Lawyer Bagnabu.
By way of warming up, Lawyer Karl Adongo asked the witness if he knew Hon. Abuga Pele at the time he was national Coordinator of GYEEDA.
Nuru Hamidan responded in the affirmative saying, “Yes I knew him to be my able boss in charge of GYEEDA.”
Counsel: Did you have good relationship with Hon. Abuga Pele?
Witness: Yes, I had good relationship with my able national Coordinator of GYEEDA.
Counsel: My lord I will rest here for now by way of warming up and come at a later date to continue.
Mrs. Justice Afia S. Asare Botwe adjourned the case to March 20 and 21, 2014.
