The well-travelled German tactician Otto Pfister has been appointed as the new El Mereikh coach on a three-year deal.
The former Black Stars boss will see him replace the sacked Michael Kruger.
Kruger was relieved of his duties after failing to qualify for the Caf Champions league first round after elimination by Ugandan side KCCA.
Pfister makes a return to the club he coached between 2006 and 2007, leading them to the Sudan premier league title.
El Merreikh, who recently played against Bayern Munich in an international friendly match in Doha, have failed to impress the fans and officials after being humiliated by the Ugandan side who were regarded as underdogs.
Pfister has had a chequered career as a player and coach and has been one of Germany’s most successful coaching exports to Africa.
He has been to the African Cup of Nations four times with Burkina Faso, Zaire, Cameroon and Ghana and has been able to reach the Afcon finals twice with Cameroon and Ghana.
Pfister also qualified for the 1998 Fifa World Cup with Saudi Arabia and has won league titles in Egypt and Lebanon and domestic cups in Tunisia, Egypt, Lebanon and Sudan.
