Pregnant women on admission at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital are leaving the wards to seek medical attention elsewhere.
This is because; doctors and nurses at the facility have abandoned work after they were attacked by irate family members demanding the body of a baby who they claim the nurses there stole alive.
Citi News’ Ashanti Regional correspondent, Hawa Iddrisu who has been monitoring the situation at the hospital reported that the inpatients are stranded while the hospital’s outpatients department remains empty.
According to her, security at the hospital however remains tight with armed policemen seen around some vantage points on the premises.
Meanwhile, the Ashanti Regional Minister, Eric Opoku has told Citi News, he is hopeful the medical officers will return to work as soon as possible.
“RESEC [Regional Security Council] has provided them the security so I am convinced that our Doctors will soon return to work,” he explained.
