The Confederation of African Football (CAF) have announced that Al Ahly have overtaken AC Milan as the club with the most internationally recognized titles.
There have been many requests in the Italian media asking Milan to remove the sentence Il Club Piu Titolato Al Mondo that means “The Most Successful Club in the World” from their kits.
This is after the Egyptian side won the African Super Cup last week to reach a milestone 19th international title. Milan have one less.
Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani had said they will ask FIFA to verify Al Ahly titles before making the suggested modification.
CAF president Issa Hayatou has congratulated the Cairo based team. “Congratulations to Ahly on this historic achievement. CAF is proud of this record that puts Africa on the world map yet again,” Hayatou said on the CAF website.
“This is a positive sign that African football has come of age and it will encourage other clubs to do more” Hayatou added.
