Vlisco outdoors “Be Your Dream” nominees

Textile producers, Vlisco, has outdoored five of Ghana’s most celebrated and accomplished women as nominees for its Women’s Month 2013 celebrations dubbed ‘Be Your Dream’.
The women include multi award winning CEO of L’AINE Services Limited, Ellen Maama Hagan, CEO of Accents and Arts, Constance Elizabeth Swaniker, CEO of Sparrow Productions, Shirley Frimpong Manso, Founding Director and Chief Business Strategist if Inspire Africa Consult Limited, Mawuena Trebarh and Investment Banker and Founder of CEO of Baobab Advisors, Abena Amoah.
Speaking at the launch of the event, the National Sales Manager for Vlisco, Cecil Chinery noted that the event was to “celebrate women who have made their dreams come true” and to the campaign will seek to give women all over the country the belief that they can also achieve their dreams.
He noted that the celebration, though scheduled to coincide with International Women’s Day, was to be more than a one day affair.
“We want to inspire other women who look to these ladies so that they can achieve something in society. Vlisco says we want to celebrate women for a whole month. To express our gratitude with all the women who have supported all through these years.”
The women were selected by an external agency in consultation with stakeholders from a list of 20 nominees.

3. By SMS voting where the first letter of the first name of the various nominees need to be texted to short code 1751 across all networks. The public will however not be left out of the fun as they stand the chance of winning 25 VIP tickets to the award night plus 5 tailor made dresses to the award night.
The winning nominee will stand the chance to win a three day trip to the Netherlands and a unique opportunity to inspire women all over the world.
Vlisco, as part of the celebration have also launched a fashion dream fund contest in which women (who must be either tailors, fashion stylists or designers) can pitch for their projects online to receive support to establish their fashion themselves in the fashion world. Winners will closely work with commercial teams in the country and will be part of Vlisco points of Influence programme. The first prize is $10,000.
Vlisco has been creating unique textiles, in Holland, that have influenced the fashion landscape in West and Central Africa. These textiles are a display of true Dutch craftsmanship and as such were originally known as ‘Hollandais’, from the French word for ‘Dutch’.
