Leading telecommunications company in Ghana, MTN, has introduced two new services to provide subscribers access to Facebook from their mobile phones.
The new services are “Facebook for Every Phone”and “Facebook SMS”.
This follows the successful launch of the 0.facebook.com service a few weeks ago.
“Facebook for Every Phone” is an application that offers a fast and comprehensive Facebook experience on the most basic handset.
The service works on basic phones with few features just as it does on smart phones.
MTN subscribers can download the Facebook application onto their phones at no cost to them and have access to all Facebook services from their handsets.
The application has been designed to consume less data, making it more affordable.
The application can be downloaded from www.facebook.com/mobile.
It can also be accessed from m.facebook.com, by clicking the link “Install Facebook on your device and browse faster” at the bottom of the page.
Customers who access Facebook through the “Facebook for Every Phone” service will enjoy free service for the next 60 days after which normal data charges will apply.
The “Facebook Mobile SMS” service also enables MTN subscribers on Facebook to exchange messages with other users of Facebook Properties through any SMS-enabled mobile device.
Customers can update their status, send and receive messages from friends, follow pages and receive real-time updates, and access direct links to the Facebook mobile site.
In order to register and enjoy the service, subscribers must go through the following steps:
• Send fb to short code 32665
• Customer receives a reply with confirmation code and a link
• Click the link to open your Facebook login page
• Login with your normal Facebook account details
• Enter confirmation code.
• Click on”activate” to complete registration.
Launching the services, the Richard Acheampong, MTN General Manager, Marketing Services, said, “MTN is committed to ensuring that our subscribers have easy access to connect to their friends and loved ones.
We realized that Facebook creates the network that serves this purpose; that explains why MTN has partnered with Facebook to give value to subscribers”.
He added, “Since the launch of 0.facebook.com, MTN has registered thousands of fans on its page and this increase in numbers encourages us to extend access to Facebook for all our subscribers who may not have the most sophisticated phones and who may otherwise not enjoy the benefits Social Media presents to us all”.
