Accra based radio station, Radio Gold has described as shameful, accusations leveled against it by the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie, of doctoring a tape recording which showcases him as making slanderous comments against Justice William Atuguba.
According to one of the presenters at the station, Alhassan Suhini, “we reject that allegation and we think it is shameful for Sir John to take that path. We think that like Ken Kuranchie had done, he should attempt a justification and try to convince the Supreme Court to accept his position. He should not run away from it and should not look for scapegoats... The attempt to use us as scapegoats will not wash.”
has gathered that the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie will be hauled before the Supreme Court on Monday.
A publication in the Enquirer newspaper reported that the NPP General Secretary had made contemptuous statements against the Justices.
The judges subsequently requested for the audio version of the said interview which was granted to an Accra-based radio station.
Speaking on Eyewitness News
, Mr. Suhini mentioned: “We have challenged Sir John and whoever to bring the so called original tape that they have. We are offering them free airtime to play the whole thing and if what we are playing is not in that original state, then we will take it from there,” he noted.
"We have also offered to any independent body that will do a voice audit to determine its authenticity. We have nothing to hide and stand by what we have done and have no regrets whatsoever.”
Two persons have already served jail terms while another has been banned from attending the Supreme Court hearing for making statements considered contemptuous.
