100" style="display:none;"/> The name Jubilee-Flagstaff house has no significance – Kwadwo Mpiani The Former Chief of Staff Mr Kwadwo Mpiani has indicated that the change of name from Jubilee house to Jubilee-Flagstaff house has no significance.

“Honestly I just don’t understand what it means and I don’t think it means anything.”

Speaking on Citi Fm’s Eye Witness news program, Mr Kwadwo Mpiani explained that the Flagstaff house does not have a historic significance since Flagstaff house was the residence of the commander during the war.

According to him the reason why the edifice was named Jubilee house is because the edifice was built during Ghana’s Golden jubilee which is more historic to the country.

“Historically it will be better to call it Jubilee house” he said.

He admonished the people of Ghana to “put aside all partisan lines” and call it Jubilee house since that is historic.

“We need to be honest enough and return to the old name” he said.

Meanwhile Minister of Information and Media relations Mahama Ayariga speaking on an Accra based radio station Peace FM indicated that “the official name for the seat of government is Jubilee Flagstaff house.”

According to him, in the President’s address before he moved to the Flagstaff house, he referred to the edifice as Jubilee Flagstaff house.

He indicated that the two names have been married together to avoid any form of controversy that the separate names have brought.

“The history that the name Flagstaff house commensurate and the also the development and advancement in our country democracy and the marking of our jubilee that jubilee brings to it I think the two has been put together and I think that it is time we make progress and focus on what is happening in the house and not on the name” he added.
