John Mensah Is Still Captain – Sanni Daara
John Mensah Is Still Captain – Sanni Daara Spokesperson of the Ghana Football Association Ibrahim Sanni Daara has rubbished reports by a section of the media that Al Ain striker Asamoah Gyan was set to be named captain of the senior national team, the Black Stars.

According to the report, Gyan will be wearing the armband in the 2013 African Cup of Nations qualifier against Malawi in Accra and the friendly against Liberia three days later.

This they said was to convince the striker to end his five month International break from the national team.

Speaking exclusively to Citi News, he said there was no truth in the reports circulating that Asamoah Gyan was set to be named captain.

“There is no truth in all that people are saying and I can tell you that the Football Association has not even had any discussions about the captaincy. Reports of this nature have got potential of damaging team unity in the Black Stars and as such we plead with our colleagues and friends in the media to double check before they send out such stories”. He stated

John Mensah remains the substantive captain of the Black Stars and his assistant will always been Michael Essien.

In the event that both players are not available, the most experienced player will be the leader of the team.
