Citi FM for the second time emerged as the media house in Ghana with the best social media presence at Blogging Ghana’s fourth Ghana Blogging and Social Media awards.
The station picked up two honors at the event held on the night of Friday, May 20.
The Accra-based station was adjudged the organization with best Twitter account, as well as the media house with the best social media presence.
The station in 2014 picked the prestigious social media presence award at the same event.
The event hosted at the Chartered Institute of Bankers’ Hall saw Citi FM triumph in a field that included Lamudi Ghana, The Miss Malaika pageant, MTN Ghana, Vodafone Ghana and the Writers Project as the organisation with the best Twitter account.
Citi FM also beat B&FT Ghana, GH ONE TV, Joy FM, Pulse Ghana, Starr FM and YFM in the media house with the best social media presence category.
Citi FM Ghana’s first Twitter verified station
Citi FM in December 2015, became Ghana’s first Radio station to be verified on Twitter.
The station’s official Twiter account, @Citi973, is one of the most followed in the country and has been one of the most active in recent years. The station’s tweets have consistently trended on Twitter in Ghana and in other countries including South Africa as well.
Citi FM hits 500,000 likes on Facebook
Also in December of 2015, the station’s official Facebook page, achieved a milestone by becoming the first radio station in Ghana to hit over 500,000 likes on Facebook. From December 2015 till now, that number has increased to nearly 700,000 likes.
Other winners at the Ghana Blogging and Social Media awards
Other winners on the night included the Minister of Gender, Social and Child Protection, Nana Oye Lithur, as the public official with the best social media presence.
Nana Aba Anamoah was awarded for having the best individual twitter profile and Shatta Wale was acknowledged for being the artiste with the best social media presence.
From an organisational standpoint, Vodafone Ghana was adjudged the organisation with the best social media presence and the best organisational Facebook page, whilst Tonaton Ghana was awarded for having the best organizational blog.
