The immediate past Electoral Commission (EC), Dr. Kwadwo Afari Djan has been given the highest national award for his service to the nation.
The award, Companion of the Order of Star of Ghana was presented by President John Mahama on Wednesday.
Mrs. Charlotte Osei formerly the Chairperson of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) will be replacing Afari Gyan who retired last month.
The President also honoured 42 medical personnel who volunteered to travel to Ebola stricken countries to offer their services there.
In attendance were some Ministers of State including Alex Segbefia, Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang, Dzifa Attivor, among others.
About Afari Gyan
The former Chair of the EC is a Ghanaian academic, political scientist and election administrator. He retired from serving as the EC Chair in June, 2015.
He has also worked in a large number of other African countries, and has written several books.
He was the “star” witness for the Electoral Commission of Ghana in an electoral petition of the 2012 elections which the New Patriotic Party filed after 2012 general elections.
