Daughter of former President Jerry John Rawlings, Dr. Ezenator Rawlings, has debunked reports suggesting that she is using her relief support campaign to launch her political career.
She stated that her activities over the weeks were geared towards raising funds for the victims of the recent fire and flood disaster and nothing more.
“What is important is what is happening on the ground; that is what matters and I don’t think it’s necessary to point fingers and say someone is using this as a way of launching one thing or another.”Dr. Ezenator Rawlings is the ambassador for TV3’s fundraising campaign called “TV3 June 3 Disaster Support Fund” which is aimed at raising funds to support the victims of the June 3 flood and fire disaster.
Her efforts have been widely interpreted to mean the beginning of her political career.
Responding to these allegations in an interview with Citi News, Ezenator said her efforts to help the disaster victims should not be politicized.
She argued that it is unnecessary for people to assume that helping the victims is a ploy to acquaint herself with the people should she venture into politics.
Dr. Rawlings remarked that since the beginning of the campaign, she has never worn any outfit to suggest that she is aligned with any political party.
“Do you see me wearing anything that promotes anything in particular?” she asked, adding that, “I’m here in my normal gear helping just like everyone else is here. It’s a communal effort and I think that we need to go beyond politicizing what needs to be done for people and what people need to do for themselves.”
