An Accra Magistrate Court on Tuesday denied renowned broadcaster, Kwesi Kyei Darkwa popularly known as KKD, bail.

KKD was arrested on Saturday night, at the African Regent Hotel for allegedly sexually assaulting a 19-year-old Ewuraffe Orleans Thompson.
The prosecution in court on Tuesday opposed the bail application filed by lawyer of KKD, Nana Asante Bediatuo, insisting that the charge of rape is a non-bailable offence.
KKD’s lawyers, led by Nana Asante Bediatuo argued that the fact presented by the prosecution does not support the charge, hence prayed the court to grant their client bail.
But the court presided over by Adwoa Akyaamaa rejected the application stressing that the charge leveled against KKD does not allow for a bail.
The case has however been adjourned to January 8, 2015.
Earlier, Nana Asante Bediatuo in an interview with Citi News was confident that his client will be granted bail explaining that looking at the “circumstances of this case, there is a strong likelihood that he will be granted bail.”
He also insisted that KKD had “consensual sex” with the complainant and not rape.
