Ghana will mark its 57th independence anniversary today with national and regional parades .
The national parade will take place at the Independence Square in Accra where President John Dramani Mahama will take the national salute and address the nation.
This year’s independence day celebrations is on the theme, “Building a Better and Prosperous Ghana through patriotism and National Unity”.
The parades will feature school children and personnel of the security services across the country.
Speaking at the 2014 Independence Day Awards on Wednesday President Mahama said the theme for the Independence Day celebrations will help citizens show a sense of selflessness and nationalism.
He also asked all Ghanaians to come together and support the government in the quest to build and develop the nation.
The event will be attended by members of the Diplomatic Corps, members of the Council of State, Members of Parliament, Ministers of State, traditional rulers and a large number of the public.
